Albany Photography Q&A: Galleries, Downloads and Print Files
Questions to ask about an Albany NY photography gallery: file sizes, downloads, print files, retouching, delivery dates and access after the session.
Choosing photographs is only part of a booking. You also need to know how the finished files will reach you and whether they fit the uses you have in mind. These questions apply to personal portraits, wedding galleries and business photographs around Albany and the wider region.
Capital Peak Media’s published services link to their own inclusions. Check the wedding, family or corporate details for your booking; gallery terms can differ between services.
Is an online gallery the same as a backup?
No. A gallery is a way to view and receive photographs under the photographer’s access terms. Download the files you are entitled to receive and keep your own copies in more than one place.
Confirm how long access lasts, whether there is a download deadline and what happens if you need the link again. Do not assume that an accessible gallery means the photographer promises to keep every file indefinitely.
What is the difference between web files and print files?
Web files may be resized for sharing or a website. Print files may be supplied at a larger resolution. Those labels alone do not tell you the dimensions or whether a file is suitable for a particular print.
Ask for the actual image dimensions and tell the photographer the use you need. A small profile image and a large wall print create different delivery requirements. The printer or designer can provide specifications when the size matters.
Will a photograph fit every crop?
Not always. A wide photograph may lose people or important detail when cropped to a square. Before ordering a print or designing an invitation, check the crop preview rather than assuming the full frame will fit.
For business photographs, send required layouts before the session. Our professional headshot guide explains why a directory portrait and a banner can need different compositions.
Does editing include every change we might request?
Ask what the photographer includes in normal editing and which requests count as additional retouching. Describe the change you have in mind; terms such as edited and retouched are used differently by different photographers.
Confirm whether you choose images before retouching, how requests are submitted and whether another revision affects cost or delivery. Do not rely on a general promise that photographs will be finished.
Are downloads, printing and commercial uses all included?
These are separate questions to confirm in the agreement. Ask which files can be downloaded, whether print files are supplied and which uses are covered. For company websites, advertising or publication, describe the intended channels and ask the photographer to confirm the applicable terms.
The corporate service currently lists a commercial licence. Use the actual booking agreement to confirm how that applies to your project; a personal session should not be assumed to have identical terms.
Illustrative Capital Region delivery example
In this fictional brief, an Albany organisation needs square staff portraits for a directory and a landscape image for an event announcement in Troy. It sends both layouts and a deadline before booking, then checks the delivered files against those two uses. Planning the formats early avoids trying to build a wide banner from a tight portrait later.
What should we ask before paying a deposit?
Confirm the number or selection method of finished photographs, delivery date, file sizes, gallery access and intended uses. Put a specific deadline in the enquiry if photographs are needed for invitations, a listing or an announcement.
Send your photography brief and delivery needs so those requirements can be discussed alongside the session itself.
